We will begin our visit in the Plaza de la Catedral, where our most important monument will make us travel through the Middle Ages as did the numerous pilgrims who arrived on the Camino de Santiago to Compostela. In the surroundings, we will talk about the Old Post and Telegraph Building, the Episcopal Palace and the Seminary.
We will continue our route through the old town of León, the famous Barrio Húmedo awaits us, to show us its streets full of bars and nightlife venues, where you can enjoy its varied tapas (potatoes, cecina, black pudding, garlic soups, mincemeat, croquettes, sausage, etc.), being a free gift from the Leonese hoteliers with each drink. And in the middle of the medieval heart are the squares of San Martín and Mayor, where we will talk about traditional markets, craft guilds, the old Jewish quarter and the most traditional gastronomy (typical dishes, DO León wines, craft beer and local vermouth). ).
We'll walk along Calle Ancha, the most touristic street in the city center, until we reach Plaza de San Isidoro. Our favorite place is, without a doubt, the Royal Basilica of San Isidoro, where the pilgrims who were doing the Camino de Santiago cross the Puerta del Perdón, to obtain the corresponding indulgences and the forgiveness of sins in the Jubilee year.
A few meters away is the "fashionable neighborhood", where we Leonese go for a few beers in the evening, always accompanied by those elaborate tapas, which make the Romántico an essential area to wander around.
Finally, we will arrive at the Plaza de San Marcelo (patron saint of León), where we will talk about the Old Town Hall, the Roman Centurion Church, Antonio Gaudí's Casa Botines and the Palacio de los Guzmanes (current Provincial Council).
