Guided tour that combines the Neo-Gothic Episcopal Palace of Astorga abroad, whose Catalan architect (Antonio Gaudí) designs in the Maragatería region, where, curiously, no bishop ever lived. And the city, you will know the relationship with chocolate, the historical re-enactments (of Cantabrians and Asturians and Napoleonic troops), of how a cooked maragato is eaten and why, the legacy of the Romans, the Camino de Santiago, etc.
The simplest history, culture, anecdotes and curiosities, in a fun and educational way in an overview of what you can see and do during your stay in Astorga.
Our visit begins in the gardens, where we will appreciate not only the attractive shape of the building and the details of its facade, but also the beautiful natural environment in which it is located. We will see the moat and the staircase, giving way to the interior. Through the spiral staircase we will access the four levels of the palace: the basement, the ground floor, the noble floor and the upper floor. We will visit various rooms, finally visiting the Museum of the Roads that is housed inside the palace. We will go to the Cathedral of Santa María, where we will see its beautiful facades (exterior only) and we will talk about its origin, its evolution and the famous Cell of the Emparedadas.
A little later, some beautiful graffiti await us, and we will learn about the history of the Monument of the Sites. Already in the Plaza de España, we will stop at the City Hall building, to observe the figures of Juan Zancuda and Colasa playing the bells, and we will tell you where to have tapas in the Plaza Mayor. A few meters away, is the Sanctuary of Fátima (it will be visited whenever possible). We will walk through the renovated Gardens of the Synagogue, until we reach an ancient Roman domus, where we will make a short stop. Crossing the Roman ergastula we will find ourselves in the Plaza Mayor, where we will finish our tourist route.
The guided tour is on foot through the historic center of Astorga, outside locations. Entrance fees to monuments are not included.rn
