The project for the construction of the new Palace of Congress and Exhibitions Hall consists of the refurbishment of an old sugar refinery to become the venue for socio-cultural events.
The programme includes an exhibition hall consisting of three areas of 12. 700 m2 and a congress palace (to be built) which includes auditoriums, meeting rooms, conference rooms, exhibition areas, a tourist office, bars and a 400-space car park of 8 500 m2.
It was designed by the French architect Dominique Perrault, whose works began in 2011. The building will have three well-differentiated units, the two mentioned above, the Gran Palais; or Congress Palace, the building that will be used as a fairground, which was inaugurated in May 2018 and finally the Petit Palais;, the latter of much smaller size.
