In 1559 the nobleman Juan de Quiñones y Guzmán decided to build a new residence on the family plots. The architect Gil de Hontañón, who imagines a space with fortress tints and departs from theGothic prevailing at that time to build a fully Renaissance building dotted with plateresque tints. In order to accommodate the project, parts of the wall were removed and the towers and façade began to be erected.
Inside the palace there is a beautiful cloister where the semicircular arches and Ionic columns stand out, as well as the repeated relief of the iconic family coat of arms of the Guzmanes; a cauldron from which the heads of six snakes stand out.
The works will not be finished until 1997, when it is now the headquarters of the Provincial Council of León.
