It was built by the Catalan architect Antonio Gaudí in 1892 at the age of 39. This is one of the buildings he built outside Catalonia, along with the Episcopal Palace of Astorga (very close to the city of Leon) and theCapricho de Comillas in Santander.
It was conceived as a warehouse and fabric shop on the lower floors, and dwellings on the upper floors. Its neogothic exterior, where the figure of St. George and the dragon over the door stands out, contrasts with the interior where we find the purest Gaudinian style.
At present, it belongs to the Foundation of the Social Work of Castilla y León (FUNDOS), as a museum since April 2017.
