An authentic jewel of the Spanish Plateresque, it began to be built in the 16th century as the central house of the Order of the Cavalry of Santiago for the Kingdom of León. Since then it has been a convent, prison (the writer of the Golden Age, Francisco de Quevedo, was imprisoned here), institute, barracks and even a terrible concentration camp during the Civil War and the post-war period.
Today it is aParador de Turismo and is closed for reforms until possibly 2020.
